Featured Style Blogger: Any 2nd Now

Cyrillynn from Any 2nd Now
How long have you been blogging?
I have been blogging for 5 years.  My first blog ran from 2004-2006, and this current blog started back in 2010.
What were your main reasons for starting a blog?
I essentially have two blogs, both called "Any Second Now", but are completely different. I started the first version in 2004 as a way to deal with the death of my father.  I needed an outlet because I wanted to share what I was thinking and feeling with my friends and family, without having to re-tell it 20 different times.  After about a year, I lost focus and direction with that blog, so I simply stopped.
I started my second blog in 2010 because a friend turned me onto fashion blogging, saying she could completely picture me doing the same thing.  What spurred me to start it was because so many people would ask me, "Where did you get that purse/those shoes/that dress (etc)?"  I found it was a way to document how and where I shop, to show my friends and family where I go and how much I spend.  It then evolved into more of a "Lifestyle/Personal Style" blog, because I now incorporate my entire life in my blog.
What inspires you?
My blog mantra is "Fashion. Music. Family. Life."  I've always been inspired by fashion and music, as is evidenced in the clothes that I wear.  I'm a very avid 80's alternative music fan, where Depeche Mode and Joy Division are my staples.  I'm always trying to incorporate some kind of musicality into my fashion, and will reach back into my teen years and pull a lot of 80's back out and make it relevant.  My family inspires me because they are so important.  When I was writing my first blog, I missed my father so much and vowed to always put my family first, so you'll see a lot of my husband and son in my blog posts, as well as family events.  I don't think I could blog without including my family.  And finally, life inspires me because I'm definitely one of the more "advanced" bloggers.  I started my blog when I was 40, when many bloggers out there were in their twenties.  I felt it was a risk of sorts, but then I found out there is an entire community of bloggers who are 35 and older.  That inspired me to keep blogging!  Now, I incorporate all aspects of my life, including cooking, dining out, attending concerts, musicals and theatre, and of course, travel.
What do you like to do on your spare time?
I work full time as a Billing Customer Service Supervisor in a local laboratory.  When I'm off of work, I spend time with my family and friends.  The wonderful thing about my blog is that since I incorporate my life into my blog, everything becomes a part of it, like dining out with friends, going to concerts, crafting and travel.  My favorite thing to do other than just relax with my husband and son, is to travel.  I adore Europe, especially London.  If money were no object, I would go to London every year!  But since we are not independently wealthy, we take in a lot of local sights and sounds.
How long have you lived in San Diego?  Tell us what you love about SD.
I was born and raised in San Diego, so I've lived here for 43 years!  I love San Diego because it's absolutely beautiful, and no matter how much someone tells me it's a big city, it still feels quite homey.  I also love that larger cities are within driving distance, like Los Angeles and even Las Vegas.  I love the weather because I can wear sandals nearly all year, but it gets just cold enough to wear boots and cute jackets in the fall and winter. I love that the mountains, ocean and desert are all here, in my city!  I love all of my San Diego sports teams, through thick and thin, especially the San Diego Chargers.  I have been a Chargers fan since I was 11, and I have traveled as far as Pittsburgh and London to see them.  I adore my city of San Diego!
What advice would you give to others who would like to begin blogging?
Just do it!  No matter what your niche is, just get going and keep going as long as you enjoy it.  Also, be true to yourself and your voice.  I have never sacrificed who I am to promote a product or to get paid.  My blog is the very essence of who I am, and I will never change.  I think it is very important to have a personal side to your blog because it allows people to relate.  Finally, don't do this for what you can get or to "become the next big blogger".  Blog because you enjoy it, regardless of what happens next.

  1. Hmmm, advanced bloggers? I thought at first that that meant more experienced and knowledgable and then laughed when I figured out it meant OLDER IN AGE. Well, then I'm an advanced blogger too. What great words and wisdom- oh and style. -Jessica L
