Featured Style Blogger: 5th and Magnolia

 Margaret from 5th and Magnolia

How long have you been blogging?
I have been blogging for various blogs for about 3 years off and for both myself and clients. About a year ago I began dedicating my time to developing 5th and Magnolia into a brand that is dedicated to fashion, fitness, beauty & lifestyle.

What were your main reasons for starting a blog?
I have been reading blogs for years; everything from fashion, fitness, mommy bloggers, food, tech etc. and love reading about what others enjoy, insider tips on things I would have never discovered on my own, fresh new ideas and product reviews.
For years I thought about creating 5th & Magnolia but it wasn't until I read the 1% Internet Culture rule which states that "1% of people create content, 9% edit or modify that content, and 90% view the content without contributing" that I realized that I was ready and that I could do it. I set some goals for myself, took the time to really focus in on when I wanted to write about and worked with a designer on the aesthetics and haven't looked back since. This summer celebrates the 1 year anniversary for 5th & Magnolia and I could not be more excited for what's ahead.

What inspires you?
That's a tough question to answer; because for me it's something different each day. I pull a lot of inspiration from things around me whether it's other blogs, commercials, art, music, people watching, the outdoors, comments from readers and others in the industry. I am also inspired by my husband, family & friends who are constantly encouraging me, challenging me to try new things and supporting 5th & Magnolia as she grows.

What do you like to do on your spare time?
I love fitness and being active outdoors; I spend a lot of time teaching & practicing Pilates, running, swimming, hiking and soaking up the sun on afternoon walks with my boys (the husband and our pup). In addition I enjoy traveling, trying new restaurants (as well as old favorites), painting, sipping yummy cocktails on the patio, shopping/sale hunting (obviously) and spending time with my family & friends.

How long have you lived in San Diego?  Tell us what you love about SD.
We have been here in San Diego for just over 2 years, and I have loved every single minute of it. I am lucky enough to live in Little Italy, which I consider to be one of the best neighborhoods in the city, right in the center of everything.
What I love most about San Diego is the diversity of things to do, places to visit and sights to see. There is so much right here in our county that we would need another 5 years to finish everything on our 'must do while in San Diego' list. It's such a treat to be able to enjoy the city, the beach, the mountains, historical sites, museums, the zoo, amusement parks and a plethora of outdoor activities all within 30 minutes of our front door.
Not to mention the incredibly friendly people here (of which we have found many fabulous new friends) & the weather which is pretty darn perfect all year round!

What advice would you give to others who would like to begin blogging?
The best advice I can give is to just do it; there will never be a perfect time and if you wait for that you will never make the leap. I would also suggest doing your research, reading other blogs and really figuring out what content you are passionate about.  Taking the time to plan will really help your success and motivation for the future.
Most of all though is learn to have patience; many blogs take time to get a following and to really take off, so find something that you love and want to share with others so that it shines through!
